Famous LDS People: Musicians

Janice Kapp Perry
Janice Kapp Perry is probably the most well-known songwriter for the LDS music market. She has been writing and publishing music for almost 30 years.

Sister Perry received much of her musical training at Brigham Young University, and currently lives in Provo, Utah, but she was raised mostly in Vale Oregon and served a mission with her husband in Chile (in the Santiago Chile West mission).

They have five children and at least 13 grandchildren (we can't keep up with the count!). In addition, the Perrys have taken in many foster children, further adding to our difficulty in counting!

Many of Sister Perry's compositions have been published in the Children's Songbook and her hymn “As Sisters in Zion” is published in the LDS hymnbook. She has produced more than 50 albums of original music, numerous sacred cantatas and several full-length musicals.

Her music has been performed by artists such as Gladys Knight, Brooks & Dunn, and The Osmonds-Second Generation.

She recently has written and published three volumes of new sacred hymns with a variety of hymntext writers, as well as a book telling the stories behind her songs.
