Famous LDS People: Musicians

Osmond Brothers
This famous family all-vocal group from Ogden, Utah, USA comprised Alan Osmond (b. 22 June 1949), Wayne Osmond (b. 28 August 1951), Merrill Osmond (b. 30 April 1953), Jay Osmond (b. 2 March 1955) and Donny Osmond (b. 9 December 1957). The group first came to public notice following regular television appearances on the top-rated Andy Williams Show. From 1967-69, they also appeared on television's Jerry Lewis Show. Initially known as the Osmond Brothers they recorded for Andy Williams' record label Barnaby. By 1971, their potential was recognized by Mike Curb, who saw them as likely rivals to the star-studded Jackson Five. Still signed to MGM Records, they recorded the catchy "One Bad Apple", which topped the US charts for five weeks. Before long, they became a national institution, and various members of the family including Donny Osmond, Marie Osmond and Little Jimmy Osmond enjoyed hits in their own right. As a group, the primary members enjoyed a string of hits, including "Double Lovin'", "Yo Yo" and "Down By The Lazy River". By the time Osmondmania hit the UK in 1972, the group peaked with their ecologically conscious "Crazy Horses", complete with intriguing electric organ effects.

Their clean-cut image and well-scrubbed good looks brought them immense popularity among teenagers and they even starred in their own cartoon series. Probably their most ambitious moment came with the release of The Plan, in which they expressed their Mormon beliefs. Released at the height of their success, the album reached number 6 in the UK. During the early to mid-70s, they continued to release successive hits, including "Going Home", "Let Me In" and "I Can't Stop".
