Famous LDS People: Musicians

Michael McLean
Michael McLean is known and loved by many members of the church for his wonderful songs, which are primarily distributed by Deseret Book. However, Michael is also a performer, composer, songwriter, producer and director. At last count, he had written music and lyrics for 21 albums, in addition to directing a producing such movies as Nora's Christmas Gift starring Celeste Holm and Mr. Krueger's Christmas with Jimmy Stewart. He has also created Our Heavenly Father's Plan, Together Forever, A Labor of Love, What Is Real? and The Prodigal Son.

Some of his best know songs are:

    You're Not Alone
    Celebrating the Light
A New Kind of Love Song
One Heart in the Right Place
You've Always Been There for Me
    Father and Son
    The Forgotten Carols
Michael wrote and directed films for Bonneville International, and he was involved in the award-winning Home Front television commercial series.

He has received the following awards:

    Cleo (prestigious advertising award)
    Addy
    Bronze Lion (Cannes Film Festival)
He has also produced such favorites as The Garden (with Merrill Jenson and Bryce Neubert), Michael McLean Soundtracks: Original Themes from Favorite Films, Michael McLean: The Collection, Volumes 1 and 2, and Safe Harbors.

In September of 2000, his stage musical The Ark (which he wrote with Kevin Kelly), was featured in the Festival of New Musicals on Broadway in New York City. Participation in the festival is by invitation only. Wow!

His 1999 album, Safe Harbors, served as the inspiration for the "Safe Harbors Service under Cover" project to benefit the Travelers Aid Society of Utah. Several hundred blankets were collected, along with a cash donation, during the album's debut weekend in support of the Society's winter shelter program.

Michael and his wife Lynne have three children, and they reside in Heber City, Utah.
